A Word From My Mind #1: Hostile Takeovers
April 1st, 2009 |I had a different column prepared for today. It was nicer, it was a little more fluffy, you know, light reading. Nothing wrong with that. I thought it would have made an excellent debut column.
Then I read that Obama was taking over the auto industry.
I am not making this up or even exaggerating.
I’m sure you’ve all read the stories by now. Over the weekend Obama and his cronies ousted the CEO of GM and gave Chrysler a 30 day notice to shape up or else. Obama’s decided he’s going to the run the automaker industry in addition to running the country.
You can see why I might be a little upset.
He was voted in as President of the United States. What does taking over, oh, I’m sorry, restructuring GM and Chrysler have to do with that?
Of course, GM & Chrysler wouldn’t be in this problem if they hadn’t gone begging for money from the government. I suppose that if I handed somebody a couple of trillion dollars, I’d like some say-so in how it was spent.
But why did they go begging?
And why did the government agree to the bailout?
Businesses rise and fall every day on their own merits. If you can go crawling to Dad every time you fail, then what’s the point?
What kind of society are we creating here?
Are we saying that it’s okay to accept handouts? That’s what I’m hearing. From President of United States himself, no less. If he says it, it must be true. Right? Lead by example and all that.
Obama made the head of GM resign. Where does he get off doing that? In fact, where does Obama get off doing any of this? True, they should have never gone to the government for money, but Obama should be taking the high road here. Stop giving them money and take your hands off the private industry. The government has no business dictating how the auto industry conducts its business.
If they’re going to fail, let them fail. Who knows what might rise up from the ashes? Well, now we’ll never know. Because thanks to Obama GM and Chrysler aren’t going anywhere.
I want to scream. This makes me so mad!
Has anything, anything Obama or, for that matter, Bush, has anything either of them have done helped the economy?
Pardon me while I look around.
Nope. Doesn’t look like it.
If giving away trillions of dollars didn’t work the first time, naturally, of course, we’ll just keep doing it. Eventually it’ll work, right?
Once again, for the people in the cheap seats:
President Barrack Obama ordered the head of GM, Rick Wagoner, to step down from his position.
I don’t care what Obama’s reasoning was. He had no business doing that.
Here’s what it means: It means that if Obama doesn’t like the way you manage your mom and pop shop he can come in and tell you to step down and he’ll put his own people in charge.
Is this what we want?
Is this want you want?
I hope you people are happy. It’s going to be eight years of this crap and who knows how many years after that. We’re not going to recover overnight from this this, if at all. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear Obama’s managed to get Congress to abolish term limits for the presidency.
I suspect the man uses copies of the Constitution to wipe himself.
Was that a little extreme?
Well, so was taking over the auto industry.
You know, everyone gave Bush crap for invading Iraq. How come no one’s giving Obama a hard time for invading the private industry?
Next Week: Barring anymore screw ups from President Moley, I’ll have my original debut column. It’ll be a lot less angry.
Tomorrow: Pictures! Or maybe not. I haven’t decided.
